There is One Thing Holding You Back From Achieving Your Personal Fitness Training Goals…
I’ve been a professional personal trainer since 1992. I’ve trained clients of all shapes, sizes and ability levels. In that time, I’ve figured out what hinders most people in their personal quest for fitness and health.
It’s not specific to one’s income level or job. It doesn’t matter the age or the ability of the individual. There is one thing that will stop most people’s progress cold.
It can make the difference between success and failure, between happiness and depression. When it’s at it’s apex, it’s crippling. The thing about this hindrance is, it’s totally beatable.
Know what it is yet? Do you want to? I mean really want to?
You may be thinking it’s a few things. Things like:
- Knowledge
- Ability
- Time
- Equipment
- The right trainer
- The right gym
Were those some of the things you were thinking of?
Nope.
Don’t get me wrong, those things can play a role, but they are not the “thing” that I’m talking about. The challenge that some people never overcome. The thing that hinders to the point of paralysis.
Are you ready? Seriously, are you sure? Because once I tell you, you’ll have no more excuses for not getting where you want to be. No more, “I’ve tried and tried, everything I can think of, but nothing seems to work for me.”
Okay, since you’ve read this far, I’m going to tell you. The thing that hinders most people’s personal fitness training progress is…
Yourself.
Don’t get mad at me. It’s true. I can’t count the number of clients I’ve trained, or hours I’ve spent trying to help people win the battle against themselves. They are without excuse. They have the right trainer, the right equipment, the right information and the time that they have set aside to peruse their goal.
And yet, no achievement. They insist it’s any one of a plethora of reasons they list for me when I ask them why they haven’t followed the program. Or worse, they lie and tell me they have followed the program, and that it’s just not working.
I have a tip for you. Only lie to your trainer if they are inexperienced. Because then you may get them to rack their brains trying to figure out what they missed or questioning whether or not they are correct about their prescription.
Ask me how I know. Yes, because I was once an inexperienced trainer myself. Fortunately now I have the knowledge and confidence to know things. Things like, this works, and this doesn’t, and don’t tell me you’re following your meal plan when you gained a pound this week.
I know this may sound insensitive, but I don’t believe that I’m doing anyone any favors by enabling them to lie to themselves or lie to me. That’s not what I do. If you want someone who’ll do that, I’m not your guy. I get people results. If that means breaking down some barriers that you have within yourself, then so be it. Because unless you do that, you’ll never get where you want to go.
I don’t care how successful your company is or how many employees you have, or how many people jump at the sound of your voice, that doesn’t mean you have self control.
The truth is, you are the only one who can make the changes in your life that you desire. Only you know when you’re at that point where you are willing to finally make things happen, to finally actually do, what you’ve been telling yourself you’ve been trying to do.
I’ve put up a lot of information on this site. I’ve given my recommendations for the best home fitness equipment to get started, meal plans, weight training, dumbells, and the various program ads I have on the right. They all work, if you do them.
So my advice to you is, first decide if you are actually ready to achieve. Then, set your jaw, and step forward in determined action!
